Segbedzi Defeats Kemavor To Win UBO Title

Sensational young Ghanaian boxer, Sampson Segbedzi 24 used a little time to grab the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) All-Africa Welterweight title on Sunday, March 5, in Tema New Town, Accra.

He beat 32 years old Victus Kemavor at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Stadium, the Gym product stopped local rival Victus Kemavor (32) in the second round.

Segbedzi was on the offensive from the start, and landed big shots on Kemavor who tried to fire back but was overwhelmed and eventually badly hurt by a hard right hand which prompted the referee to step in and wave the fight off. Official time of stoppage: 1:23.

Considered one of the best prospects in West Africa, Segbedzi was a favourite going into what was his first title fight, despite facing a much more experienced foe, but it was not expected that he would make such short work of Kemavor.

Segbedzi, who dedicated his victory to the memory of footballer Christian Atsu who was killed in the recent earthquakes in Turkey, improved his professional record to 7-0 (6). Kemavor, falling short in his third championship bout, drops to 12-7 (9).

The fight headlined a show billed as “Independence Eve Boxing”, promoted by Box Office Sports Promotions in association with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council.
