Tomorrow Tuesday 5 March, 2024 will witness some young classic boxers from Ghana display their skills and talent before their own fans.

They include world title chasing Daniel Selassie Gorsh (10-0, 8 KOs) who meets Moses Adjei Selvi (8-1-1, 8 KOs) for the vacant Ghana National as well as UBO Africa Super Bantamweight belts in the headline bout of the 'Independence Eve Rumble' presented by Box Office Sports Promotions and partners at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

Also on the bill is Michael Decardi Nelson against undefeated Nigerian Sodiq Adeleke in an international contest.

There would be other supporting bouts, such as Derek Quaye versus Tagoe, Hillman against Mchondi for the UBO Inter Continental Bantamweight title and a female boxing action.

Coach Carl Lokko who spoke to Yours Truly today in an exclusive interview said Bronx Gym boxers have the power punch and are crafty and ubiquitous in the ring. He expressed that Daniel Gosh aka ‘The Emperor’ has advanced in the game and will give stylist Moses Selvi a very good fight.

“We must expect a really good fight and certainly my boy, Gosh will win” he stressed.

Light heavyweight boxer, Jonathan Tetteh aka ‘Worldwide’ lost the opportunity of representing Ghana at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games when he was disqualified for his first bout due to being overweight at the World Qualifiers in Italy.

According to Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) sources, Tetteh was supposed to scale 80kg but was over at 80.60kg

He was to fight Schumann Kevin Boakye of Germany who has got a Walkover.

Meanwhile, there are other five boxers in Busto, bArisizo Italy who can sail through so the GBF Communications has called for calmness for the other boxers to focus and obey their coaches.

Sensational Theo Allotey has won his first battle, while Samuel Takyi the ‘Ring Warrior’ is also hoping to beat his Japanese opponent.

The 13th African Games competitions begun on Monday with Samuel Akayede getting a first win for Ghana in table tennis. He registered 3:1 against Sudanese Iddrisu to advance to the next stage of the men's table tennis singles event.

Ghana's Cynthia Kwabi also defeated 9 year old Sifa Favour from Kenya by 3:0 to advance to the next stage of the table tennis women's singles.

Ghana is parading 11 year old Israel Aklie who unfortunately lost his first match.

Nigeria’s sensational Kuti Mathew proved too strong for Ghana’s Israel Aklie in a compelling match during the 13th African Games men’s table tennis singles event. Mathew displayed exceptional skill and dominance, defeating Aklie with a scoreline of 3-0.

Ghana's Eva Adom-Amankwaa triumphed over Angola's Isabel Albino to put smiles on the faces of the Loopers.

Dr. Caesar says very big thank you to His Majesty Otumfuo  Osei  Tutu ll and Nana Konadu Yiadom lll, Asantehemaa, for supporting the special prayers-Adua of his mother, Hajia Aminata on Sunday the 3rd of March 2024. Dr. Caesar is also using this opportunity to thank, Chiefs, Muslims Community, Christian Community, Politicians, Sportsmen and Women, Olympians, Lina Energy Tea Consumers, The media and the Adabirijo Family across the globe for their support at the special prayers-Adua of his late mother Hajia Aminata.

Dr. Caesar also thanked the Ghana Police and other security services who came to help in performing the special Adua on Sunday, March, 3, 2024. Finally is he thanking to his staff and the general public for the love they showed him.

In another development, Dr. Caeser wants to commend the government for hosting the 13th African Games, by building and renovating facilities.

He noted that with great athletes like Joe Paul Amoah, Ben Azamati, Solomon Diabo and others Ghana will put up a good show.. He also hoped that the football teams will excel to put smiles on faces of Ghanaians.

He advised all the Ghanaian sportsmen and women to be disciplined and show respect at the Games Village.

 The first edition of the Ghana International Footvolley Cup took place on February 22 and 23, 2024, ending successfully at the University of Education, North Campus, opposite the National Sports College in Winneba.

15 teams from Ghana, Benin, and Austria/Brazil took part in the tournament, which was divided into 4 groups. After the group phase and the intermediate round (for the 4 remaining places in the quarterfinals) were completed on the first day, the focus on the second day was mainly on the center court, where all matches from the quarterfinals onwards were played.

Spectators from all walks of life were thrilled with various new skills and techniques exhibited by the players after three days of training camp before the tournament, which was also attended by a delegation from the Kenya Footvolley Federation.

The two delightful semi-final matches were played between Theo & Theo (Keta Footvolley Club/Ghana) and Joseph & Happy (from footvolley Benin), Jerry & Nebiwu (Keta Footvolley Club/Ghana), and Heraldo & Bernhard (BRA/AUT).

Theo/Theo clashed with Heraldo/Bernhard in the exciting grand final of the tournament.

After losing the first set, the twins from Keta in the Volta region, came back very strongly from the break and won the second set. With a late comeback in the deciding set, Heraldo & Bernhard sealed the deal (18:9, 15:18, 15:9) and secured the title.

All participants received certificates of participation and medals from the organisers.

The final match was graced by a delegation from the Central Region National Sports Authority led by Mr. Aboagye, the technical director of the National Sports College, Winneba, a representative from Neeyi Ghartey, a representative from the university, and a representative from the Effutu Municipal Assembly.

Hon. Mustapha Mohammed, president of Ghana Footvolley commended all the players, officials, volunteers, spectators, media and sponsors for the memorable event.

“It was a great experience, the players and referees have learnt a lot about new techniques and rules, we will keep on developing and promoting footvolley in Ghana and Africa” he told Yours Truly.

“What is most important is the unity and incredible fun and entertainment we all had together, it was a special week to celebrate footvolley” he expressed.

He added that Association Footvolley for All (AFFA) main goal is to make the sport accessible to all regardless of age, gender, nationality and boundary. Hon. Mohammed said AFFA's partnership with the Footvolley Association of Ghana and Africa will continue to grow bigger and bigger.

The list of players for the 13th African Games 2023 to be hosted by Ghana has been released by the Technical Team of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).

The team is made up of ten (10) players, five (5) males and five (5) females.

Eleven (11) years, Israel Aklie, 2022 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) award winner for the most exciting table tennis player made the squad.

Israel Aklie becomes the youngest member of the Ghanaian contingent for the African Games. The left-handed cadet player has proven that when given the opportunity, he will hoist high the flag of Ghana.

The male players is approved are Bernard Joe Sam, Emmanuel Commey, Samuel Akayade and Ernest Mawutor Quarcoo.

The female team is led by the evergreen Cynthia Kwabi, supported by Celia Baah-Danso, Eva Adom-Amankwaa, Bernice Borley Borquaye and new kid on the block Juanita Borteye, 2023 SWAG female prospect of the year.

James Marfo is reserve player for the male team to be handled by coaches Anthony Owusu-Ansah and Ebenezer Tetteh Annang-Whyte.

Technical Director of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Charles Tachie-Menson said they have prepared well for the competition and confident of good performance. 

Undefeated Michael Decardi-Nelson takes on also undefeated Nigerian, Sodiq Adeleke in the main undercard of 'Independence Eve Rumble' at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra next Tuesday, 5 March presented by Box Office Sports Promotions and Platinum Punch Promotions.

The main bout is between two rising stars, super bantamweights, Daniel Gorsh of the Bronx Gym and Moses Adjei Selvi of the James Town Gym.

The Accra International Conference Center at Osu / Ridge will be used as one of the centers for the 13th African Games to host Table Tennis.

Table Tennis and Badminton will start from today, Sunday March 3 ahead of the opening ceremony.

Table Tennis training sessions by different teams at the International Conference Center have started and on-going, awiting for tomorrow's big first game.

Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, president of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) believes the Golden Loopers will shine at home.

He urged Table Tennis fans to visit the Accra International Conference Center to cheer the players and make Accra 2023 involving and exciting.

Ghana's Faisal Abubakar fought cautiously and steadily on Saturday night to outpoint slippery Ugandan Latibu Muwonge in an ardent contest to win the WBO Africa Super Lightweight title at the Lord's Wembley Plus at Shukura in Accra.

The international bout put up by new promoters, Priceless Life Entertainment was well arranged and attended, giving the fighters and fans the morale and vim to display.

Latibu kept running away from Abubakar to avoid the immense punches and not to be knocked out but at the end of the 12 rounds the swellings on his face was the evidence that he has been hit most and was the loser, which he accepted and congratulated the new champion from Ghana.

Faisal Abubakar, a Zongo boy won on the cards 116-112, 120- 108 and 118- 110 and had a kingly ride as he was carried home by his numerous fans after he was awarded the belt by the WBO Africa representative. Mr. Samir Captan supported by Ghana Boxing Authority officials.

Young promoter Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu, CEO of Priceless Life Entertainment presented a branded watch from Caveman to the winner and commended the fans for their discipline.

Faisal Abubakari (16 -0-13kos) of the Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation Gym who gave Muwonge his first defeat will be ranked 15 by the WBO.

Latibu Muwonge (8-1-0) who holds the African Boxing Union (ABU) Super Lightweight title was not interested in a rematch as admitted he was the loser, but hoped to fight in Ghana again as the atmosphere of the bout was great, acknowledging Ghana as a boxing nation and proud to fight and not knocked down in Accra.

"I have been waiting for this chance for a long time and I want to thank my manager and promoter for making me a continental champion" Faisal Abubakar aka Agbaa said after the 12 hot rounds.

Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Abraham Kotei Neequaye hailed the new champion and urged him to keep on working hard as the world title is possible.

Present at the event was the CEO of Fight Africa who supported the poromotion.

Following the fantastic and well organized PGA event held at Damang in the Western Region for the 10th edition of the Goldfields Championship to climax the season, the leadership of PGA is set for yet another round of tournaments in Ghana for the 2024 calendar.

The first of such tournaments of the year will tee off at the Center of the World Golf Club in Tema, for the Golden Classic Championship 2024 which is one of the four flagship competitions leading to the road to Damang agenda.

The 2024 edition of the Golden Classic is from Tuesday 12th to 14th March however the tournament is expected to attract a number of professional golfers throughout the country.

The 54-hole championship event will be played over three days. There will be a cut off after the 36 holes on the second day which will set the pace of a more competitive challenge of the championship. Golfers who will be successful after second day on the course at Tema will proceed to compete on the last day of the tournament.

Cash prizes will be presented to winners in the regulars and seniors categories.

Speaking to the media on the forth - coming Golden Classic Championship, UK based PGA director of operations, Alhaji Ahmed Padori said feverish preparations are underway to ensure a successful golf championship at the Center Of The World Golf Club.

“Being the first competition of the PGA, golfers will be anxious and determine to impress, I urged them to train further to brighten their chances at the three-day competition” Alhaji Padori expressed.
