President of the National Paralympics Committee, Samson Deen has been elected new head of the Africa Paralympics committee at the ongoing General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco.
Samson Deen polled 24 of the total votes cast, beating Morocco’s Hamid El Aouni who polled 15 votes. Mr Deen replaces the outgoing APC boss Leonel da Rocha Pinto who has been in charge for 13 years.
The total of 41 delegates (38 in-person and 3 voting online) comprised of Presidents and General Secretaries of National Paralympics committees on the continent with 9 positions contested.
Positions of President, Secretary-General, Vice president Treasurer and representatives from the language communities (Arabic, English , French and Portuguese ) and the Athletes representative were contested.
Deen was elected President of the National Paralympics committee in 2019 and was endorsed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports who had Deputy Sports Minister Evans Bobie Opoku in Rabat to support his bid.
Ghana is aiming to become the first country to host the African Games alongside an African Para Games in 2023 and Deen’s election is viewed as a huge boost to achieving that.
The annual Sekondi-Takoradi Marathon (STM) is set to be launched on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
This year’s event will be the second edition after it was initiated in 2020 as part of activities making the annual “Ankos Festival” held in December every year.
The STM an initiative of Medivents Consult together with its local partners Total Marketing and Tours Limited (TMTL), in collaboration with the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) would be launched at the Conference Hall, of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC).
Mr. Kwabena Otchere Darko-Mensah Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi would be joined by top officials from the region such as the Chief Executive Officer of the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Assembly (STMA), Chief Executive Officer of Effie-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), officials from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ghana Education Service (GES) and the security services.
Also expected to attend the launch are top sports personalities from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), National Sports Authority (NSA), Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), and the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA).
A statement from the organisers said the launch would be used to unveil the routes for the competition, various categories, prizes, registration among others.
It said this year’s is expected to attract over 1000 participants which would include professional athletes, keep fit clubs, race lovers, among others.
Swedru-based William Amponsah won the maiden edition last year and is expected to defend his title this year as the competition attracts more interest from the international scene.
The STM is an annual 21-Kilometer Marathon under the auspices of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) and organised by Medivents Consult and its local partners Total Marketing and Tours Limited (TMTL).

The Women's 5k Run is an annual non profit women's only 5km race event that brings together women to walk and run with the aim of throwing light on social issues affecting women and supporting women charities in Ghana.
The date for this year's event is Saturday October 30th 2021 at the University of Ghana Sports Field. Start time for the virtual event is 6:00am GMT.
The women's 5k Run is a charity sports event. Proceeds from all our registrations goes to support other women. The charity work is primarily focused on Maternal health in poorer communities and women's mental health advocacy.
With the slogan “TOGETHER WE RUN THE WORLD” the Run has fun filled activities including race t-shirt styling and other networking events participants can engage in.
THE VIRTUAL RUN APP- This year we will be using the Charge Running app for our virtual race. This is an innovative way to stay connect in a race and have a real live interaction with everyone else participating in the event right from wherever you are in the world. Using the technology of the leaderboard, chatroom, and personalized audio, Charge Running provides you with the feeling of an in-person road race, while still being a fully virtual run event. There is music, commentary on the day ,training manuals , and you can comment upload your pictures and finish times and connect with others from all over the world in real-time, just by stepping outside your front door or hopping on the closest treadmill . An invitation code will be sent to you via a link to your email and phone number after registration.
Despite the fact that we are having a virtual race you still get to receive your beautiful finishers medals. If you are in Ghana, you would have to state your location for delivery which will be at an extra cost to you paid on delivery. You can also choose to pick up your medal from our offices.

Spency Diva aka Aseda is coming out with another hit for the sports and entertainment people.
She says the song is for the Ghana Black Stars because she believes they have what it takes to qualify to the next FIFA World Cup in 2022 in Qatar.
The ace musician cum dancer said the Black Stars is Ghana’s biggest brand in sports, yet they are not doing well to the liking of many people and begged them to back up.
She said the change in the technical direction came at the right time, and Coach Milo is doing well.

Start Breast Cancer Awareness At SHS Level - Olla Williams
Founder of the Senior High Schools (SHS) Sanitation Programme, Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams has called for the awareness on Breast Cancer and related issues to begin in schools.
After touring St. Louis SHS, he said it would be better if young female students are aware of Breast Cancer, and know much about their bodies.
Mr. Olla Williams who was also contributing to the annual Breast Cancer celebrations in October expressed that schools heads have a big role to play, as they need to support the female students.
He noted that many female students are not aware of many things on their body, as sex education is not frequent, and some of the students are just adventurous.
He suggested that students must be taught everything that they need to know to make them better and it is important that they must know about Breast Cancer and other ailments in their private parts.
He said the Schools Sanitation programme has been highly successful, and thanked Unilever Ghana, the major sponsor.
He also commended the school heads who have supported him over the years as well as the students who comported themselves very well.
According to him, the next School Sanitation would be exciting as they have added other concepts like television series and other events to make it more interesting.
Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams is CEO of One-On-One Foundation and Dreamland Sports Plus.
He is also the Youth Coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), and wants more girls to do sports.

The Queen's Baton on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 reached the Asante Kingdom where Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was able to hold it ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
President of Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah presented the Baton to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and briefed him on the history and significance.
From the Manhyia Palace (the seat of the Asante King), it will be paraded in Bonwire (Home of Nana Yaa Asantewaa and our prestigious kente) and other principal streets in Kumasi.
The Queen’s Baton was brought from Sierra Leone by Alie Gibril Koroma.
His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was the first baton bearer in Ghana.
Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah said “It is fantastic to have the Baton arrive in Ghana, reaching the 6th country destination out of the 72 Commonwealth nations and Territories ”.
He expressed that the Baton’s route started from Cyprus, Malta, Nigeria, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and now Ghana which will be the 3rd West African country to receive the Baton.
The Baton with its royal message was dispatched by Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 2nd from Buckingham Palace on 7th October 2021, with its first stop in Cyprus.
The Baton will tour all the 72 Commonwealth nations and Territories and then arrive back in England at the Opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022, where Her Royal Majesty will take out her message and read it to the whole world.
Ghanaians created a lot of excitement with the Baton as it was held by top government officials, sportsmen, musicians and change makers.

Without a doubt the biggest celebration at the international judo event was Kwadjo ANANI who was representing Ghana.
There would have been no way to tell if he representing France, Spain, Netherlands or Italy with the mass celebrations as he took the bronze in the -100kg category, but the 21 year old has a great record in Italy, and now on the continental tour.
He represented Ghana at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
