Black Stars captain Andre Ayew’s stupendous strike against Gabon has been named as one of the best goals in the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

The 33-year-old scored a scorcher of a goal on the 18th minute of Ghana’s clash with the Panthers of Gabon and his stupendous goal has not gone unnoticed as it has been included as one of the best goals so far at the tournament.

Ayew was given a pinpoint pass from his deputy Thomas Partey before turning swiftly and unleashing an Unstoppable drive into the bottom left corner.

But Ayew’s strike wasn’t enough as Gabon struck late through Jim Allevinah to deny Ghana a victory at the death of the match.

The Ghana captain’s goal was undoubtedly one of the beautiful goals in the group stage and rightfully received the recognition it deserves.

Three Olympic villages of the 2022 Winter Games have started working in China and have begun to receive members of foreign delegations, while the official opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, the Beijing Organising Committee said.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing from February 4-20. The Winter Paralympics will take place in the Chinese capital from March 4-13. The competitions will be held in three clusters at once in the Chinese cities of Beijing, Zhangjiakou and Yanqing.

Designing, choosing locations and constructing the villages took about five years. China has made everything possible to give a warm welcome to athletes and official delegations from all over the world during the Olympics and Paralympics.

All villages are part of the so-called “closed circuit” organized due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors of the villages will be prohibited to leave the circuit. At the same time, guests will be able to move between Olympic facilities on specialized buses. Moreover, a high-speed train will transport people between Beijing and Zhangjiakou.

The Olympic Games will take place during the Chinese New Year, so foreign guests will be given the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the country’s most important holiday, on the occasion of which the Olympic villages will be decorated with traditional red lanterns and hieroglyphs “happiness” cut out of red paper.

The Commonwealth Games

January 23, 2022

The Commonwealth Games

The next Games will be in Birmingham - The 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games, is an international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946, has taken place every four years since then.

The Commonwealth Games were known as the British Empire Games from 1930 to 1950, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games from 1954 to 1966, and British Commonwealth Games from 1970 to 1974. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams, making the Commonwealth Games the first fully inclusive international multi-sport event.

In 2018, the Games became the first global multi-sport event to feature an equal number of men's and women's medal events.

The creation of the Games was inspired by the Inter-Empire Championships, as a part of the Festival of Empire, which were held in London in 1911. Melville Marks Robinson founded the games as the British Empire Games which were first hosted in Hamilton, Canada in 1930.

During the 20th and 21st centuries, the evolution of the games movement has resulted in several changes to the Commonwealth Games. Some of these adjustments include the creation of the Commonwealth Winter Games for snow and ice sports for the commonwealth athletes, the Commonwealth Paraplegic Games for commonwealth athletes with a disability and the Commonwealth Youth Games for commonwealth athletes aged 14 to 18.

The first edition of the winter games and paraplegic games were held in 1958 and 1962 respectively, with their last edition held in 1966 and 1974, respectively, and the first youth games were held in 2000. The 1942 and 1946 Commonwealth Games were cancelled because of the Second World War.

The Commonwealth Games are overseen by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), which also controls the sporting programme and selects the host cities. The games movement consists of international sports federations (IFs), Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs), and organising committees for each specific Commonwealth Games. There are several rituals and symbols, such as the Commonwealth Games flag and Queen's Baton Relay, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

Over 5,000 athletes compete at the Commonwealth Games in more than 15 different sports and more than 250 events. The first, second, and third-place finishers in each event receive Commonwealth Games medals: gold, silver, and bronze, respectively. Apart from many Olympic sports, the games also include some sports which are played predominantly in Commonwealth countries but which are not part of the Olympic programme, such as lawn bowls, netball, cricket and squash.

The President and Secretary General of Association of African Sports Federations (UCSA), Maj. Gen. Ahmed Nasser and Dr Emad Elbannany in Ghana. Ghana's hosting of #Accra2023 African Games is attracting more stakeholders into the country with consequent impact on sports and businesses.

They met the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Director General of National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof Peter Twumasi and Mrs Elizabeth King, Vice President of Ghana Hockey Association /African Hockey Federation Executive Member/UCAS Treasurer and Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Chairman of the LOC Accra 2023.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif (MP) welcomed them into the country.

Milovan Rajevac has been sacked as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, according to multiple media reports.

The Serbian gaffer after Black Stars early elimination from the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon has come under intense pressure to vacate his position.

Ghana who were in a group with Comoros, Gabon and Morocco finished at the bottom of Group C without a win, picking up just a point after three games played.

The elimination means for the first time in 2006, the Black Stars have failed to qualify from the group phase of the competition.

Milovan Rajevac was reappointed in October on a one year renewable deal, replacing CK Akonnor. The 63 year old was tasked to end the country's 40 years AFCON trophy drought and qualify the country for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Ghana Football Association were summoned by the Ministry of Sports on Friday to deliberate on what led to the team's early elimination.

After the meeting, the Ministry of Sports in a press statement said the Black Stars management committee must be disbanded and urged the Ghana Football Association to review the performance of the coach.

With the 2022 World Cup playoffs happening in March, Milovan Rajevac has been sacked with the Ghana FA expected to issue a statement to confirm his termination of contract.

President and founder of the Sports Achievers Club, Abigail Twumasiwaa Okanta made history at the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon when she was adjudged the Best Dressed Supporter and was presented with the Fan of the match award by Orange, sponsor of the Tournament.

Abigail who has returned home to Accra following the early exit of Ghana's Black Stars in the competition said she had a great time, but coach Milo and his charges could not deliver as expected.

She said hope is not lost as life goes on, but the Black Stars will bounce back.

She advised the Ghana Football Association to look for a charismatic coach who can lead the nation to the next FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

She thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports and African Origin Travel and Tours for making it possible for her trip.

She urged her colleagues in the Ghana Sports Supporters Union to keep on cheering the Black Stars as they will certainly come back to winning ways at the right time.

Abigail has been to a couple of African Cup of Nations Tournaments and thinks Cameroon 2021 was a disaster for Ghana as they lost against the Comoros Island.

She advised footballers to be serious when representing the national team, because it is a honor and privilege.
