Ghana was well represented in South Africa, with three amazing athletes who came and competed in this year OCC marathon 2024 and won two gold medals and one silver.

The three time paralympian Botsyo Nkegbe won gold in 42 km, the general captain of Gogetdem Club, Maclean Atsu Dzidzienyo won Silver in 42km.

“We were so excited seeing one of the up and coming para athlete in the person of Emmanuel Kwaku Gyasi, from the Yes I Can Games winning the Gold medal in 21 km.

“It was the first time he is competing outside Ghana I don't know how to express my happiness for this young child, we can only say we thank God and all the sponsors who make this trip possible my special thanks go to Equity Sports Lab, GPAA and Seymour Aabjch Foundation for Young Disabled (CEO Mr Felix), we thank you all once again for your prayers and support from behind it really mean a lot to us” said Botsyo Nkegbe, a former SWAG Top Personality of the Year and captain of Team Ghana at the Commonwealth Games.

John Zile aka The Monster stopped veteran Raymond Commey aka Chorkor Banku in round 8 by TKO to become the new LBO Africa Super Bantamweight Champion on Saturday at the Deep Sea Pub,James Town.

The bout was well attended attesting to the fact that the people of James Town love boxing.

Osibor Boxing Promotions with the support of Bronx Promotions once again produced a champion for the nation.

Meanwhile, Mr. John Manfo, a member of the Ghana Boxing Authority  (GBA) Board says the new boxing champions must not rest with these small belts, but train harder to grab the popular belts like WBO, WBA, IBF, WBO or even the Commonwealth title which is a very prestige title.

He commended Sherrif Quaye also from the Bronx Boxing Gym who has been promoted to the eighth position of the WBO world ranking and may earn a world title shot any time.

Ghana’s leading boxing promotions outfit, Box Office Sports on Friday 23rd March, 2024 signed a sponsorship partnership agreement with Yifan Business Services towards the upcoming boxing event themed "Independence Eve Rumble" Gorsh versus Selvi National / UBO Super Bantamweight Championship clash slated for Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Yifan Business Services are happy to associate its brand to this high level boxing fight night and promised to help young Ghanaian boxers achieve their dreams of becoming world champions and to fly the flag of Ghana high.

Mr. Alex Ntiamoah Boakye CEO of Box Office Sports expressed his joy for the sponsorship and appealed to other companies to support and invest in boxing.

“This support will go a long way to make the event a successful one” he said.

The Independence Eve Rumble Boxing is an official program and part of the Ghana's 67th Independence Anniversary Celebrations activities.

The previous events had brought high level personalities including statesmen, politicians, celebrities, sportsmen/ women, business men/ women, government officials to the Bukom Boxing Arena in a hyperactive atmosphere witnessing extraordinary level boxing craft.

The Ghana Cycling Association (GFA) President, Mr. Mohammed Sahnoon is optimistic the nation's best cyclists will do well at the upcoming 13th African Games to be hosted in Ghana.

He said inspite of several challenges in gathering all the best Ghanaian cyclists and selecting a route and venue to train, they are on course for a great event.

My. Sahnoon who is Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) believes the best will come out of the cyclists as they have demonstrated discipline and patriotism.

"We have 20 cyclists for the games. 12 men and 8 women. They are training hard with limited resources augmented recently by GOC support to all disciplines in the games. We are very hopeful for achieve some medals in the upcoming games. At this material time the games venue at Olebu which is yet to be fixed. MOYS and LOC on it as I understand" he told Yours Truly.

The Secretary General of the GCA, Mr. Mohammed Shabaan also expressed hope that they will deliver, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports who have set up a team to ensure that the cycling venue is prepared.

Miss Elizabeth Alhassan Gyamfi, media liaison officer of the GCA stressed that the venue for cycling at the Games is Ablekuma Olebu. She commended the female cyclist who have been responding to the tough training regime.

Mr. Dennis Moore PRO of Ghana Cycling is also sure of a successful event at the African Games.

Cycling has been labeled as one of the eight disciplines to be classified at the 13th African Games as a qualifier towards the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. Top cyclists Henry Tetteh Djanmah and Chris Symonds Bennet are in the team.

The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has finalised its preparations ahead of the 13th African Games aka Accra 2023 and named a squad of 12 athletes (seven male and five female) who will represent the nation at the prestigious event.

GTTA technical director Charles Tachie Menson said strategy, experience and tactical qualities of players were considerd in picking the squad.

The selected male athletes include Samuel Akayede, Bernard Joe Sam, James Marfo, Israel Aklie, Ernest Mawutor Quarcoo, Felix Lartey, and Emmanuel Commey.

The female contingent comprises Cynthia Kwabi, Joanita Borteye, Celia Baah Danso, Eva Adom Amankwa, and Bernice B. Borquaye.

While all the women selected will represent the nation at the African Games, the men’s team will pick only five making the final cut.

The 13th African Games is a qualifying platform for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Menson remains optimistic about Ghana’s prospects, despite big names like Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa.

“Ghana used to be one of the best in Africa in the 70s, Egypt and Nigeria took over, and they are really ahead of us, but no matter what, we still have to fight on and make sure that we do our best. I know that once we put certain things in place, we will also get there.”

The Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) has named six Golden Rackets (Males) and four Diamond Rackets (Females) who will represent Ghana at the 13th African Games dubbed Accra 2023 to be contested at the Tennis Center of the new Borteyman Sports Complex from 15th March to 23rd March, 2024.

The players who were selected by the technical and executive body in consultation with the captains, Frederick Egyr and Rachard Ayi Dartey are Abraham Asaba, Isaac Nortey,  Samuel Antwi, Johnson Abban (host wild card) and Lameck Bagerbaseh (host wild card) for the Golden Rackets and Ruth Crawford, Elizabeth Bagerbaseh, Sisu Makena Tomegah and Tracy Armah to represent the Diamond Rackets.

Their co ordinators are Madam Zenabu Sulemana and Mr. Henry Boni Quarshie.

According to the president of GTF, Mr. Isaac Duah, the team had non residential camping on January 20, 2024 and trained at the Accra Sports stadium, before moving into residential camping on February 15, 2024 at Cape Coast.

He wished the team all the best and invited tennis fans to be at Borteyman to support and cheer the players to victory, praying that the player win medals.

Mr. Duah, also the deputy treasurer of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) whose term has been rewarded by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) was impressed with the Borteyman Tennis Courts and prayed that it would be maintained well for Ghana to host more international tennis competitions.

The 13th African Games is from March 8th to 23rd 2024.

Mr. Michael Tetteh, deputy director of Promotions at the Ghana Boxing Authority GBA has welcomed and commended Twinstars Boxing Promotions for their concept of taking the sport to the communities.

Addressing the media at the introduction of Twinstars Promotions and the boxers on the premier bill, he named Dodzie Kemeh as a popular boxer who fans will follow to the fight grounds.

Other boxers on the bill are Aziz Seidu, Emmanuel Ocran, Samuel Otoo, Joseph Sackey and Samuel Quaye who is on the main bout.

Naana Lavis Opoku-Agyeman, general manager of Twinstars said the bouts would be held near the DVLA office at Weija and hopes to draw crowds from Kasoa and it's environs.

She noted that Twinstars is out to identify African talents and promote them to international icons.

Ahmed Nureni-Davis, CEO of Twinstars Boxing Promotions promised to reward the most outstanding boxer.

The show dubbed Night of The Warriors comes up on March 20, 2024 at 30ghc for Popular Stand, 50ghc for Regular Stand and 100ghc for VIP.

Twinstars who have the mission to support the youth operate a fitness center, guest house, car washing bay, and events organization.

Mr. Ernest Danso, Chef de Mission (CDM) for Team Ghana the 13th African Games has underlined the toil of camping over 500 Ghanaian athletes in preparation for the continental multi sports festival from March 3, 2024.

He said national sportsmen and women who stayed at Cape Coast from January 9, have moved to the Games Village at the University of Ghana, Legon to continue their training, while the facilities to host the games are tested.

Currently an international Handball is going on at Borteyman, while the University of Ghana will host a national inter schools athletics competition.

Mr. Danso said there were initial challenges but was very optimistic that Team Ghana will overcome all setbacks and move on to challenge for medals at the Games.

“Everything is new to everyone, it is the first time this is happening in Ghana and we have over 500 athletes, camping.”

“It’s been a great challenge, but so far, so good, we’ve all come to some sort of agreement”

An estimated 3500 elite athletes from 50 countries are expected to be in Ghana for the first time in the competition’s history since 1965.

Ghana will take part in discipines like football, athletics, boxing, badminton, cycling, swimming, tennis, table tennis, and triathlon, just to name a few of the 30 events.

At the last 12th edition in Rabat, Morocco, Team Ghana won atotal of 13 medals to place 15th on the medals table, with Egypt at the top amassing 273 medals, Nigeria was in second position with 127 medals and South Africa placed third with 187 medals.

Ghana won its first gold medal through 17-year-old athlete, Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, won the women’s high jump with a leap of 1.84m. she has now impoved her jumps.

The Men’s 4×100 event was also claimed by Ghana. Team Ghana, with the quartet consisting of Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Martin Owusu-Antwi and Sean Safo-Antwi, finished in a time of 38.30 seconds ahead of Nigeria (38.59) and South Africa (38.80).

In the women’s race, Team Ghana placed in eighth place after dropping the baton.

Ghana also won two silver medals in long jump and weightlifting, which amassed nine bronze medals.

CDM Danso believes Ghana will win more than 30 medals at Accra 2023.

Osibor Boxing Promotions is coming up with their second promotion headlined with the LBO Super Bantamweight Championship between John 'The Monster' Zile of Bronx Gym against vs good old stylish veteran Raymond Commey also known as ‘Chorkor Banku’ on Saturday, 24 February at the Deep Sea Pub at James Town  in Accra.

According to Mr. Gordon Frimpong, MD of Osibor Mangement, they have come to take boxing and business to a higher new level to boast tourism.

He noted that Osibor has discovered some talented boxers from the Bronx Boxing Gym who need to be pushed to win titles for Ghana.

He said the gate fees will be very moderate to enable more fans to come and watch.

Meanwhile, Mr. Frimpong wishes to thank the technical men and supporters of the Stanley Nyantekyi aka Ashanti Warrior who won the LBO Intercontinental Featherweight belt at the Golden Beach Hostel at Korle Gonno.
