Accra Hearts of Oak has announced the appointment of two new directors, less than 24 hours after dissolving the previous board.

In a statement of Wednesday, Hearts said its majority shareholders, Strategic African Securities Limited and Strategic Initiatives Limited, had nominated Togbui Afede XIV and Delali Anku-Adiamah, its Managing Director, as the board members.

Togbui Afede XIV, chaired the previous board that served from 2012 to 2014.

Delali Anku-Adiamah who was hired as Managing Director on February 10, holds a PhD in Computational Systems Biology from the University of Manchester, Bsc Computer Science from the University of Birmingham, UK.

He previously worked in the Finance Department of Manchester United, Accenture as the Technology Consultant Manager, and at Markit as VP.

On Tuesday, Hearts of Oak announced it had dissolved its board of directors, in a club statement.

Tuesday's decision ended Alhaji Alhassan Andani, Thomas Kwesi Esso, Professor Kofi Kumado, Ivy Heward Mills, Alhaji Moro Adamu, Vincent Sowah-Odotei, Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, and Frank Nelson Nwokolo's run as board members.

Wednesday's announcement however means Togbui Afede, the majority shareholder of the club, will continue steering the affairs of the club.

Hearts are scheduled to hold this year's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 27.

High-class sporting facilities built for African Games will serve Ghana well after the Games – Akufo-Addo

President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that he is elated with the facilities the country will be using to host the upcoming African Games.

Ghana will host the rest of the continent in March for the 13th African Games.

Delivering a State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, February 27, President Akufo-Addo said “it gives me great pleasure to report that all the preparations are ready for Ghana to welcome sportsmen and women from around the continent to participate in the 13th edition of the African Games. It seems incredible, but this is the first time that Ghana will be hosting these games.”

The President said he is also happy that the sporting facilities will serve Ghana very well even after the African Games are done.

“It has taken a lot of courage to have persisted with the decision to host the games, especially when our financial problems came in the midst of the preparations. But I am glad we went ahead.

“The preparations are all complete, and I was excited and very pleased with what I saw at Borteyman when I went to commission the Games village some two (2) weeks ago. We have high-class sporting facilities which should serve us well long after the games are over,” President Akufo-Addo said.

The 13th African Games will start in Accra on March 8.

Students in some selected Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Eastern Region will enjoy the 67th Independence day anniversary of Ghana with three specially selected sports activities, Football, Tug of War and Pillow Fighting at the Koforidua SecTec on Friday February 29 and Saturday, March 1, 2024.

According to the organisers, Dreamland Sports Plus and One On One Foundation who are the initiators of the successful schools sanitation program, sports play a major role in development and socializing creates friendship, peaceful coexistence and affection.

Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams aka the 'GAS' man who is CEO of the organizations as well as Youth coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) said countries have developed new sporting activities and they are playing, like pickleball, climbing, skateboarding and breaking which would be competed at the 2024 Olympic Games.

He noted that Tug of War and Pillow Fighting are sports that many people are enjoying because of what they derive from.

"There is no injury in Pillow Fighting, just laughter, Tug of War also demonstrates strength in unity" he said.

He urged the over 20 schools to comport themselves and compete with sportsmanship values.

Mr. Williams expressed that both boys and girls are going to participate in the football gala to highlight the event sponsored by Verna Mineral Water, Yomi Yoghurt and Dano Milk.

He commended all the institutions that have confirmed to participate, stressing that 2024 is a sporting year for Ghana as the nation hosts the 13th African Games, comprising 30 different disciplines.

He wished Ghanaian students a happy Independence Anniversary which is also coming up at the new resource center in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region.

Ghana Swimmers Most Grateful To Akufo Addo For Borteyman 13th African Games Aquatic Center

The Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) is most grateful to President Nana Akufo Addo for investing in the construction of facilities for the 13th African Games which swimming has benefited with the modern aquatics center.

Pesident Madam Delphina Quaye and Treasurer Farida Alhassan were elated when Yours Truly asked them about the new swimming facility.

They were happy that Ghana can host major swimming competitions which would generate the interest of the sport in the country.

Meanwhile, the GSA has presented the provisional list of swimmers for the 13th African Games slated for Ghana from 8th to the 23rd March, 2024.

11 swimmers have been selected to camping, made up of four ladies; Nubia Adjei, Zaira Forson,Unilez Yebowaah Takyi and Joselle Mensah plus seven men including Abeku Jackson,Kow Asafua Jackson, Nicklaus Yeboah, Theodore Asampong Kwaa Jnr, Harry Stacey, Ivan Snowden and Hector Titus Twumasi Ankrah.

The swimmers will be handled by coach Daniel Okyere Opare of UG and Pavel Kutashev. The aquatics events will start from the 9th - 13th March at the Aquatic Center, Borteyman.

Ghana Athletics will organise a national open championship at the University of Ghana stadium on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

The championship, is a pre-competition trial of the facility ahead of the African Games 2023.

It will last two hours, starting from 3 PM and ending at 5 PM to make way for the continuation of preparations and rehearsals for the opening ceremony of the event.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC), on Friday, February 23, handed the facility the opening ceremony team to fix their equipment prepare the ceremony slated for March 8, forcing Ghana Athletics to reschedule its National Invitational Students Athletics Championship (NISAC), which was slated for February 24 to 28.

The LOC, however, had to compromise as standard requirements from World Athletics makes it mandatory for the facilities to be tested before competitions begin.

With the athletics governing only likely to have access to the facility on March 10, 2024, they might not be able to organise any major event to test the tracks and equipment before the athletics competitions start on March 18.

Hence, the pre-competition event will be held on Wednesday without field events, per JoySports sources.

Meanwhile, the certification of the main stadium tracks for the games is expected to complete today, while the lane markings the warm up track will start on Wednesday.

A total of 316 boxers from 34 countries have entered this year’s African Games boxing tournament in Accra.

A delighted secretary general of the African Boxing Confederation told AFBC Communications he’s impressed by the increased number of participants and expressed optimism of more countries likely to confirm before the deadline tomorrow (February 28).

AFBC will be in charge of the boxing tournament in Accra in conjunction with the organising committee.

The 2019 African Games in Rabat attracted 31 countries. Morocco clinched the overall team title with four gold, two silver and one bronze followed by Botswana, Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria.

Uganda had the last laugh in the East Africa bragging rights battle, finishing 9th with two silver and one bronze ahead of 11th-placed Kenya with one silver and four bronze medals. Tanzania didn’t participate.

The technical officers of the Ghana National Amputee Football Team, the Black Challenge have organized a press conference on Monday to appeal to the government, Ministry of Youth & Sports and the general public to help them secure funds to prepare and play at the upcoming Africa Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) from April 19 to 28, 2024 in Egypt.

Present at the ceremony were award winning coach Stephen Richard Obeng, technical director Ali Jaraa, Physio Dr. Kerdi of 37 hospital, welfare officer Emmanuel Akpabli  and goalkeepers trainer Eric Lartey.

Secretary general Mohammed Huzair who led the conference said they want to bring to the attention of Ghanaians what is currently happening as Amputee Football seem to be neglected after they brought joy on the faces of Ghanaians at the first ever African Para Games hosted in Accra Ghana last year.

He said all promises after winning the Amputee Football at the First African Para Games have not been fulfilled and they do not want disabled people to be begging on the streets while they can use their talents and skills profitably.

Mr. Huzair hailed the president of Africa and Ghana Paralympic Committees, Mr. Samson Deen the CEO African Origin who has led them positively and inspired them to keep going despite the challenges.

“In fact the plight of our players very sad, getting food, accommodation and transportation is serious, but we are self motivated to succeed, recounting how they traveled to Togo on Ayalolo bus to beat them 9-1before the 2023 Para Games” he expressed.

He noted that there have been several set backs and lack of support, recollecting in 2021 when they bought their own tickets to travel for the African Championship in Tanzania which they won and later re embersed.

In 2023, they emerged champions in football, as the only winners for Ghana at the Para Games which the nation hosted.

According to the head coach, the Egypt competition is a qualifier for the 2026 world Cup, which they must compete to defend their title which is decorating the Sports Minister’s office and possibly win for the third time for keeps

“This is the season for Ghana, as a football nation we have to save Amputee Football, we need love and support for the national team, we are .calling and begging for support” he expressed.

The technical director noted that they need funds for camping, air tickets, transportation, feeding, logistics, participation fees and friendly matches.

We are sincerely calling for support and we promise to win like we always do” he said and expressed gratitude to the media who have always propagated their messages.

Ali Jaraa, a former national goalie commended sports journalists who support the less financed sports who always win medals and trophies but they are neglected..

Goalkeeper’s trainer, Lartey said since 2018, the Amputee League has collapsed due to lack of funds, but they have been able to produce 12 players who play pro in Turkey, while most locally based players train at home on their own.

Welfare Officer Emmanuel Akpabli said they cannot compare with the Black Stars, however they would be glad if the remaining of the Black Stars winning bonused from the failed Afcon 2023 is awarded to the Amputee team, and appealed to the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo to fulfill his promise.

Meanwhile, Karivan Travel and Tours Company is trying to secure sponsorship for the Black Challenge who play at the African Tournament is from April 19th to 28.

Madam Apeatu of Karivan announced packages for individuals and corporate bodies who wish to travel or take vacations to go and watch the Black Challenge in action.

Mr. Forster Kwarteng.president of Ghana Amputee Football assured the nation that they would certainly go to Egypt and defend the trophy.

President Félix Tshisékédi of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced the country's candidacy to host the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations in 2029.

During a press briefing on Thursday, February 22, 2024, President Tshisékédi outlined the nation's ambitious plans to vie for the opportunity to host the tournament for the first time in its history.

The President expressed his determination to support the Football Association of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Fecofa) in preparing a compelling application to compete against other potential candidates. Infrastructure development initiatives will be launched to ensure the country meets the necessary standards to host such a significant sporting event.

In addition to the bid for the 2029 edition, DR Congo is gearing up to apply for the 2031 Africa Cup of Nations in the event of an unsuccessful bid for the earlier edition.

DR Congo competed in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. South Africa emerged victorious against DR Congo in the third-place match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
