Mrs Abigail McKorley, wife of Dr. Daniel McKorley, Chief Executive Officer of McDan Shipping has pledged to support the initiative to create awareness on women’s football in Ghana.

The tennis enthusiast believes all girls and women should be involved in some form of sports.

Mrs. Abigail McKorley who is also CEO of Beebies Events has commended the organisers of the upcoming Extravaganza scheduled for the McDan Park at La on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Aishatu Zakaria Ali of ETV and Happy FM will be supported by two budding sports journalists to compare the event which involves a football gala by four female clubs and some exhibition by boxers, karate do performers and an acrobat cyclist.

Rising female artiste, Spency Diva will also entertain the invited guests.

Mrs. Mckorley has promised to award a trophy and medals to the winners of the gala.

The President of Women In Sports Association (WISA), Madam Gloria Commodore aka ‘Mama G’ has also promised to honour the winners.

Meanwhile, Liz Mundi, the organizer of the event has thanked all who are supporting her and appealed to Ghanaian men to support Women’s Football and Women’s Sports in general..

Africa Sports Ventures Group  (ASVG) officially launched its Flagship Sports Entertainment show whose first season will be hosted in the Republic of Liberia in early 2022 called the Africa Empire Warrior show at a virtual Press Conference on January 4, 2020 along with officials from the Ministry of Culture of Liberia, its partners Canadian Digital Music Company HITLAB which will power the sound track of the show and Slovenian based Sky Scout; which will provide its AI Operated Cameras for the production.

The shows format, which is a test of strength, agility, power, endurance and ultimate fitness, will pit 4 contestants per African country in a series of obstacles against contestants from all 54 African Nations in the 12-stage competition. The 12-stage contest will have each stage represent 12 ancient African Empires and what it took for an individual to qualify to be a Warrior back in those times.

Some of the Empires to be featured are: Benin Empire, Ghana Empire, Malian Empire, Songhai Empire and Carthaginian Empire

The rest of the empires will be revealed in due course as the preparation towards the production of the made for TV shows progresses.

According to the head of Production Ms. Tiah Knox of New Jersey USA; this is a show that will showcase the past glory of Africa and help people develop a new perspective of Africa and its rich history.

Contestants will be vying for attractive Cash Prizes along with other goodies provided by our sponsors.

The show which a three months long annual series will be shown through local broadcast partners as well as on streaming platforms that will be revealed before Registration for Auditions start on the Programs website on March 1st 2021.

Ghanaian international, Issah Abass has moved on loan from Mainz 05 to FC Twente for the remainder of the 2020/2021 football season.

The exciting attacker after returning to the German Bundesliga club last summer after his loan deal with FC Utrecht expired hoped to play a bigger role for the team this season.

Unfortunately, things have not panned out quite well with the Ghana U-23 striker constantly overlooked for matches during the first half of the ongoing German Bundesliga season.

Issah Abass has been signed by FC Twente to provide a squad boost for the team in the Dutch Eredivisie.

“FC Twente has reached an agreement with FSV Mainz 05 about the arrival of Issah Abass to Enschede.

“The 22-year-old Ghanaian attacker will be rented from the German club until the end of this season and arrived in De Grolsch Veste today,” a confirmation statement on the website of FC Twente reads.

The move will see the pacey forward enjoying regular playing time to ensure he continues his development.

WAFA striker Daniel Lomotey has become the first player in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) to score four goals in a match in the ongoing 2020/21 season.

The Black Stars B striker grabbed the headlines after netting a double brace against Medeama at the Sogakope Park on Sunday afternoon.

The goal poacher has now scored 6 goals in 6 games for WAFA, an average of a goal per game.

He scored a brace against King Faisal in their opening league game at the Sogakope Park and had to wait until their Match Day 7 clash with Medeama before finding the back of the net again.

WAFA dominated the game in the opening 45 minutes as they went 4-0 after Lomotey scored a hat trick to add to a Godwin Agbevor 31st minute effort.

But, Medeama rallied after the break as Rashid Nortey scored a quick-fire brace after Abass Mohammed had reduced the deficit for the Mauves just around the hour mark.

Medeama were just a goal away from drawing level when Lomotey scored his 4th goal of the game, nine minutes from time but that did not stop Justice Blay from putting his name on the score sheet in the 87th minute.

The win places WAFA in third place and just a point behind leaders Bechem United.

The Ali Royals Female Football club has been inaugurated with a baptism of fire as they were taught the rudiments and techniques as well as tactics in the game at the Ebubonku Community Football Field aka Bonkus Park on Sunday.

Some Special Guests who attended the event were Chairperson and Robert Otieku Dancun (RFA Chairman - Central Region.

Others are Thomas Ewudzi Zito ( District FA Chairman - Cape Coast Metropolitan)  Saliki Alhassan Ibrahim ( Amisano Muslims ),  Saliki Ali Ibrahim ( Ebubonku Muslims),  Joe Carr (Former Kotoko, Dwarfs and Black Stars Goalkeeper and other stars.

In the special launching cup football match Zenith Pathways Girls beat Ali Royals Girls 3-1 to lifted the trophy.

Theresa Ackon Cobbina later advised the young female footballers to be disciplines and obey their coaches.

Ali Yakubu, the founder and chairman said the NGO which was formed in 2015, and having  a female team promotes gender, and their aim is to groom talented kids in sports to become future champions and stars.

He said their foundation is into football and surfing and their aim is to contribute to kids who love to combine education and sports in the Cape Coast North Municipality .

“We organize sporting events and our activities is mainly focused on children” he expressed.

He appealed to institutions who love to see the kids of Ghana to grow to become super stars to contribute to their Academy, noting that the future of Ghana Sports is feminine.

Ali Yakubu who is also technical head of Soccer Intellectuals thanked parents and guardians who believe in his vision and support  their children to combine education and sports.

He promised that Ali Royals Girls will revenge the win by Zenith Pathways Girls at the right time.

Inauguration Of New IMC For The Ghana Chamber Of Events Management (GCEM)

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Ghana Chamber of Events Management (GCEM) has been inaugurated at a short but impressive ceremony in Accra.

GCEM was formally incorporated in August 2015 by private sector players in the events management industry. Membership includes experts and personnel in the various aspects of the local events industry, third party suppliers, and other strategic partners and stakeholders in the area as a regulatory and advocacy body for its members and of the events industry in Ghana.

The members of the IMC are Mr. Dodzi Anador, a seasoned marketing practitioner and the managing partner of Phelp Services Ghana Limited as Chairman; Mr. Paul Mensah, the Executive Director of Divine Eagles Limited as Vice Chairman; Mr. Abraham Ofori Portuphy, the Chief Executive Officer of Glitter Edutainment as the Secretary, Ms. Vivyan Araba Essuman of Sport Business Africa Centre and CEO of Royal Peaches, as Assistant Secretary; Mr. Maxwell Dextler Ampofo of Varaderos Consult as Operations and Mr. Daniel Blagogee of Prosline Services as Deputy Operations.

The IMC's Terms of Reference (TOR) include undertaking a nationwide mobilization of individual and or corporate memberships; secure collaborations with existing Federations & Associations as partners of the GCEM, including the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GNCCI), MUSIGA, Federation of Tailors & Seamstresses, Actors & Actresses and Hoteliers Association.

The IMC will also provide a ROADMAP for Regional and National Executives Elections by the 2nd week of September 2021 for official inauguration of new Executives by the 3rd week of September 2021; as well as identify personalities to be appointed as PATRONS of the GCEM with a very prominent person to be appointed as CHIEF PATRON. The IMC shall also review all proposals submitted by the earlier 3-member Committee on financial restructuring of the Chamber and adopt strategies for fund mobilization before the Regional and National Elections. They will also consult state institutions, ministries and authorities towards a REBRAND OF GCEM as well as a re-launch of the Chamber by the first week of September 2021.

The IMC shall also explore international linkages and collaborations with global bodies of same or similar pursuits and forge partnerships.

On behalf of the IMC, Mr. Dodzi Anador thanked the outgoing Management Committee for their dedicated service to the Chamber and pledged the new team’s commitment to make the Chamber visible and relevant. The Chairman also said the regularization of current members and a vigorous membership drive will be the main focus for their efforts.

Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru, has confirmed he is in talks to join Belgian powerhouse, RC Anderlecht on a 6-month loan deal.

The enterprising midfielder has endured a torrid time this season with the Austrian side.

He has made just 13 games across all competition this season.

In an interview on Citi TV, the former WAFA star said his agent is working on the move, but the deal has not been finalized yet.

“Yes, my agent is working on it, but the deal has not been completed yet," he said.

"In the next few days, we will know what the next move is. Right now I am with my family so hopefully soon, I will know if I am going or not," he added.

He has nine league appearances, two cup games and two Champions League appearances. He provided five assists and scored no goals.

After an impressive season at WAFA, Majeed Ashimeru earned a move to RB Salzburg, but the move has seen him go on three loan deals to Lustenau, Wolfsberger and St. Gallen just to earn game time.

Despite impressing on his loan deals, Jesse Marsch has not handed him many game minutes to show his worth.

Tennis Foundation Ghana( TFG) and Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) Ladies Challenger series tournaments.

The two companies released a statement on Thursday as official partners for the event as part of their efforts to promote tennis in the country.

Speaking to www.ghanatennis.org, CEO of Velo West  Africa  Miss Enkelejda Xhebexhiu said " Velo West Africa is proud to support Tennis Foundation Ghana host great events to benefit the youth". She said her outfit is particularly proud to be associated with the women’s event and the ITF Junior World Tour Events in April and August this year.

On her part Mrs. Abigail McKorley, CEO of Beebies Events said she is happy that for once the focus will be on Ghanaian Ladies Tennis and expressed optimism that the ladies will take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their skills. She thanked Tennis Foundation Ghana and the Ghana Tennis Federation for the initiative.

 The 5 series tournament for Ghanaian Ladies is supported by the Gender and Equity Committee of the Ghana Tennis Federation.

Every leg of the series has a budget of 2,000ghs.

8-year-old Ghanaian wins Africa Under-9 Chess Championship

Eight-year-old Dave Chief Quansah Acheampong, of the Jack and Jill School, has won the Africa Under 9 Chess Champion Competition in the just ended African Schools Individual Chess Championship 2020.

This is the first time a Ghanaian chess player has won such a contest.

For his prize, Dave gets a roundtrip economy class air ticket by the African Chess Confederation to represent Africa in the World Schools Individual Chess Championships to be held in Halkidiki, Greece between May 2-11, 2021.

This year’s African Chess Confederation contest was hosted online as a result of the COVID-19.

The five-day tournament saw 105 players from countries in the continent including Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, South Africa, Egypt, Angola, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Morocco competing in different age categories: Under 9 years, Under 11 years, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17years.

Dave, who is currently Ghana’s under 8 champion, started the tournament with a win in the 1st round and suffered 3 losses in subsequent rounds.

Despite, his loses, Dave came back to win every game in the remaining 5 rounds of the tournament. Finishing with 6 points out of 9 to grasp first place prize ahead of top favorites: Mohammed Hossam Adham from Egypt and Rannveer Tak from South Africa.

It came as a surprise to many in the Ghana Chess Association although Dave is believed to be a promising and talented young player.

Speaking to his father after the award ceremony, Mr. David Acheampong, explained that Dave was introduced to chess at age four and has since shown love for the game.

Mr. Acheampong described his son as an asset for the country, noting Dave has won some local competitions and that the Africa Under 9 Chess Championship was the biggest prize won so far.

Mr. Acheampong who is also the founder of Mentors Chess Academy expressed the hope that his son’s achievement would inspire more children to take interest in learning chess as it helps enhance problem-solving and analytical skills.

“The boy wants to be a chess grandmaster in the near future. It has become imperative for young prodigy to maintain his consistency in his chess hobby and therefore, will need all the support going forward,” he said.

An Accra based Journalist, Mr Phil John Quartey had a shock of his life on last Saturday night when two heavily built men verbally threaten to kill him and another journalist at metro tv over what they described as unprofessional act by the Ridge based tv station. The death threat incident which occured near the traffic light location opposite the International trade fair center in La around 10.23 lasted 1.40secs and saw the two men dressed in all black attire threaten to beat and kill the metro tv journalist. According to Mr Quartey who has since reported the incident to the La police station, while on his way home he decided to buy some rice and grilled chicken at a popular joint, however upon alighting from the car, the two men who drove in an unregistered black Ford car approached him and warned him with threats over his media house pronouncement of the December 7th election results. For close to 1.45secs I felt worried and unsafe as the two men verbally threaten to finish me and another presenter who they described as stomach journalist. They spoke in twi " we will kill you and that stomach journalist at metro tv for his unprofessional job and nobody can do anything to us, go and tell him, we are still watching you guys".The incident drawn the attention of passer byers who shielded me from further verbal assault from the attackers.
