The WABA Vice-President Dr. Henry Mainly Spain is renovating the building sitting at the Prime location at 125 Boundary Road East  Legon Accra near America house. Boundary Road is a major street in Accra, Ghana to be the WABA's Vice-Presidency Financial Department.

Dr. Manly Spain is up and running to the task of running the financial department of WABA that would meet the challenges of the recurring and development expenses.

The WABA is unveiling several packages to make sure that boxers are fully insured and the champion retirement packages would be available.

It goes without saying that when boxers are property looked well after, the sport of boxing would grow substantially.

The WABA would soon launch it's Website that would inform the public about the activities of the only Africa's based world body.

Monthly ratings, schedules, boxers bulleting board, current information about the sport of boxing around the world would be important units of the WABA Website.

Some members of Team Ghana at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan today paid a special visit to the Minister of Youth & Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif to wish him HappyBirth Day.

They presented him a Birth Day Cake.

The team comprised Administrator Farida Iddrissu, Press Attache Sammy Heywood Okine, the three Black Bombers; Samuel Takyi, Suleimana Tetteh, Shakul Samed, Coach Akai Nettey, Coach Asare and Weightlifter, Chris Amoah.

The Sports Minister was not only surprised, but he was elated.

Madam Elizabeth King, chairperson of the Women’s Commission of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has congratulated Team Ghana at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

She commended the personal effort of 20 year old boxer Samuel Takyi that has won the nation an Olympic Bronze medal.

She expressed that the 2020 Games is historical because in the midst of Covid 19, the Japanese authorities were able to organize an exciting, memorable and successful event.

According to her, Ghanaian sports women were not seen much at the Games, excerpt Nadia Eke who was a co flag bearer and did the Triple Jump as well as young swimmer, Unilez Takyi.

She advised Ghanaian females to take sports serious, so that they can also be in the picture.

Madam King a retired Ghana Prisons Officer who played hockey to the highest level, and now a top executive on the international scene said sports can take the youth of Ghana to places, so they should be focused on education and sports.

She advised that preparations for the next Games at Paris in 2024 must begin now.

Chef de Mission of Team Ghana at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Mr. Michael Aggrey has disclosed that their dream target was to win gold, but they are happy and content with the bronze medal, and for the Ghanaian star, Samuel Takyi to represent Africa on the closing day ceremony podium, standing by the IOC President is a great honour and achievement.

Speaking to Yours Truly at the Hanida Airport in Tokyo, Mr. Aggrey who is also the President of the Ghana Golf Association said Team Ghana chosed the theme ‘Ghana Champions For Gold” and had it not been the disappointing decision in the Semi Final bout between Samuel Takyi and American Duke Ragan, Ghana’s position on the medals table could be better.

According to him, the entire Team proved to be disciplines from the camping at Inawashiro to Tokyo, and after watching the athletes preparations and training, he knew that Team Ghana was not going home empty hanhed.

He praised the coaches who handled the athletes, and the medical staff as well as the ubiquitous media attaché.

“We were like a family. People should not think we didn’t had problems. There were issues, and we had to manage everything tactfully and diplomatically with respect” he said.

“Once we have gone, saw and conquered, there is no need recounting some of the challenges, so we are moving forward with the lessons learnt” he expressed.

Mr. Aggrey hinted that the experiences gained at Tokyo 2020 are massive, so the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and National Sports Authority (NSA) should engage members of Team Ghana as the nation prepares to host the African Games.

He also thanked the GOC President, Ben Nunoo Mensah and the Minister of Youth & Sports Hon. Mustapha Ussif, whose presence at the boxing venue inspired the Black Bombers to perform.

Mr. Aggrey stressed that the entire Team Ghana deserved some honour from President Nana Akufo Addo, however Samuel Takyi deserved great recognition and reward for ending almost 30 year of Olympic drought in Olympic accomplishment.

Team Ghana who were the last to leave the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Village will arrive in Accra on Friday August 13, 2021.

The head trainer and owner of the Discipline Gym Coach Ampofo  has presented a gold chain to Olympic Bronze medalist Samuel Takyi.

Coach Ampofo who is based in the United States of America for the past 3 years traveled to Ghana  due to the achievement of his ward to gift him the chain.

He is known to have picked Takyi from the neighbourhood of Usher Town and now he is an Olympic medalist.

The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) stood to a standstill when the last batch of Team Ghana including Bronze medalist, Samuel Takyi arrived in the country on Friday August 13, 2021.

The 10 team made of the 3 Black Bombers and 2 coaches, the administrator, doctor, covid liaison officer, press attaché and chef de mission received a massive enthusiastic welcome to really prove that the nation is hungry for sports success, as the fans are ready to celebrate achievement.

Most of the fans who trooped the airport were boxing fans, friends and relatives of Samuel Takyi.

The Ghana Boxing Supporters Union (GBSU) and Ghana Sports Supporters Union made their presence felt with their organized rendition of victory songs and comportment.

The Samuel Takyi Fan Clubs were also present as well as the media.

When the boxer 20 year old amazing boxer, Samuel Takyi and the entourage including Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah and the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) appeared before the media and fans waiting, the crowd was so jam-packed that one had to be strong and steady to see the new sensation and record their messages.

The Sports Minister congratulated the entire Team and recounted their achievements, before announcing that President Akufo Addo will meet them on Monday.

He applauded the efforts of the boxers, athletes, swimmers and weightlifter which yielded setting new records at the Games held in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Samuel Takyi also thanked the Almighty Creator, the GOC, NSA and all his fans and admirers for their prayers, support and booming welcome.

Before the Air France plane touched down, the pilot and crew members announced the presence of the Olympic medalist on the flight, and they presented a gift to him.

Some passengers on the flight took pictures and congratulated him for his historic success since 1972 when an Olympic bronze.

The Press Attache of Team Ghana to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Mr. Sammy Heywood Okine deserves to be congratulated and rewarded for his great work.

The man also known as ‘General One’ has been working with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) since 2017 as a Volunteer, and at his first major assignment he excelled classically, marvelously and extraordinarily .

Actually, Sammy Heywood Okine was the only Ghanaian journalist at the 2020 Olympic Games, and he worked tirelessly from day to night covering Team Ghana, doing interviews, writing stories, taking picture and shooting videos all at the same time, indeed he is a genius, legend and just super.

He projected the Ghanaian contingent very excellently and shined in promoting the best positive news.

Sammy Heywood Okine who officially is a Deputy Communications Director at the GOC acted as the Communications Director after Charles Osei Asibey resigned.

He was former Deputy Secretary General of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and Producer of ‘On The Ball’ on GTV for many years.

He has edited numerous newspapers as Sports Editor including Sports Coin, Rainbow Sports, P& P (People and Places), Daily Guide, The Statesman, NewsGhana.com, Asaaseaban.com etc. Former Head of Sports Production at Meridian Radio.

He is currently the Ghana Country Manager of African Sports Media Network (ASMN) with headquarters in the USA.

Sammy loves sports, and is the only male director / advisor of Women In Sports Association (WISA).

He is also the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) as well as Fitness Instructor at York 250 Gym at Mamprobi in Accra, Ghana.

Accra Hearts of Oak have won their 11th FA Cup trophy after beating AshantiGold 10-9 on penalties in the finals of this year’s competition on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Richard Attah scored the decisive penalty kick for the Phobians as they won the double for the first time time after21 years.

The game started in blistering fashion with Hearts applying the early pressure on the AshantiGold defence who stood resolute and curtailed the early threat from Hearts attackers.

Benjamin Afutu came close in opening the scoring for the Phobians but his header from close range, struck the cross bar with Amos Kofi Nkrumah clearing his lines.

The game was fairly balanced half way through the first half but it was AshantiGold who had a larger share of the possession.

Despite their dominance, AshantiGold were unable to create any clear cut opportunities with their clearest chance falling for Eric Esso who skied his 25-yard free-kick.

There was little to choose between the two sides as the first half ended scoreless.

Hearts started the second half the more determined side as they searched for the opener with the home fans getting impatient.

Amos Addai was handed a glorious opportunity to put AshantiGold ahead but his effort on goal in the 56th minute was safely gathered by goalkeeper Richard Attah.

Raddy Ovouka came close in giving Hearts the lead in the 63rd minute after goalkeeper Kofi Mensah nearly made a mess of a well- struck shot from the defender.

A defensive miscalculation from Hearts defender Robert Addo Sowah gifted Amos Addai clear sight at goal but he shockingly missed from close range.

AshantiGold marshalled the midfield department of the game in the late stage of the second half but couldn’t create any clear cut chances.

Afriyie Barnieh who was quiet in the game nearly struck Hearts infront right at the end of second half but his effort skewed wide as the game went into extra-time.

Yaw Annor at the start of first half extra time should have given the Miners the lead but his effort on goal narrowly missed the target.

Substitute Victor Aidoo had a chance to put Hearts in the lead but his header went wide as the first half extra-time ended with no breakthrough.

Both sides were very careful not to conceed in second half extra-time as they game went to penalties.

Fatawu Mohammed, Emmanuel Nettey, Robert Addo Sowah, Mohammed Alhassan, Victor Aidoo, Raddy Ovouka, Ibrahim Salifu and Richard Attah all scored for Hearts while Caleb Amankwah, Afriyie Barnieh, Benjamin Afutu missed their kicks

Scorers for AshantiGold include Ampem Dacosta, Stephen Owusu Banahene, Frank Akoto, Yaw Annor, Isaac Opoku Agyemang, Amos Kofi Nkrumah and Richard Agyemang but Amos Addai, David Abagna, Seth Osei, Kofi Mensah missed for the Miners as they missed out on their second FA Cup.

 

Olympic Bronze medalist Samuel Takyi was the toast of Ghanaians based in Japan when he visited the Chancery of the Embassy to show his medal.

He was welcomed and hailed by the Ambassador HE Frank Okyere who was ably supported by Ms. Abigail Kwashie, Minister / Head of Chancery and Mr. Aikins Abrokwa, Minister, Political /Economic - both at the Ghana Embassy in Japan.

They urged him to train harder, and bring more glory and honour to the nation.

Madam Pat Adjorkor Mensah who was also happy for the achievement of Takyi prayed that he goes on to win the world title for Ghana.

She expressed her admiration for sports and hoped that the nation will cherish and honour sportsmen and women adequately.

Nana Yaw of JafricQ Radio in Japan said Takyi has marketed Ghana sports in a big way. He commended the GOC leadership for a great job.
