Mr. George Lamptey, President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GBF) has commended James C. Nortey, a former footballer  and his charges for organizing the Besesaka Boxing  Day Tournament and selecting the best juvenile boxers who will get scholarships to further their education.

The ten juvenile boxing champions who were selected and offered scholarships by the Besesaka Boxing Project on Saturday held their first training session at the Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym at James Town in Accra.

They were engaged in a training session where he charged them to be disciplined  and neat at all times as well as keep safely the items donated by Besesaka Boxing Projects.

The selected boxers made up of three girls and seven boys each boxer received training shoes, tee shirt and shorts, socks, gloves, head gear, under wear, mouth guard and hand wrap.

They have been offered scholarship for their education for the next three years, and will receive some provisions every month.

The beneficiaries are Ebenezer Ankrah 14 of New Era, Emmanuel Doemoh 12 of Sempe, William Laryea 12 of Alko Int. Millecent Dodoo 10, Caleb Dadzie 13 of Sempe, Edward Bonah 11 of St. Mary’s, Najat Naa Norley Lokko 11 of Happy Days, Caleb Mensah 14 of Universal and Rahman Ablorh who was the first juvenile boxer to be discovered.

Former player of Right To Dream, James C. Nortey who schooled in the USA and played for Akademisk Boldklub in Denmark initiated the programme aimed at supporting less privileged but talented kids of Bukom and surrounding areas.

Coaches Sowah Thompson, Vincent Akai Nettey, Carl Lokko and Dr. Ofori Asare took the boxers through some drills .

WBO rated Duke Micah, the newly appointed  Ambassador of Amateur Boxing who trained with the kids adviced them to be thankful to the Besesaka Project and take their training very serious as all eyes are on them as future stars.

He urged them to study hard if there is no boxing training or engagement and be obedient at home.

Ghanaian world rated bantamweight boxer, Duke Micah has assured his fans that he will be back in grand style.

Speaking to Yours Truly in an exclusive interview, the baby face assassin who lost for the first time to John Reid Casimero of the Philippines said there is time for everything and at the right time he will become the world champion.

He revealed that the opportunity to crack at the WBO Bantamweight title came at a moment he was no well prepared, but he had to grab it and try his chance.

According to Micah, his opponent was very well prepared and highly motivated than him because his nation was fully behind him.

“I never knew people even watched the fight in Ghana. I thought nobody knew about it and I had no support even at the ringside, but I did my best” he said.

Duke Micah (24-1-0) said the fight against Casimero has taught him many lessons, and he is now humble than ever.

The newly appointed Ambassador of Ghana Amateur Boxing who represented Ghana at the 2012 Olympic Games urged boxers to be disciplined and take their training serious always as opportunities in the game may come when you are not prepared and you must fight.

He has returned to the Bronx Gym under Coach Carl Lokko, hoping to land another opportunity for another world title fight.

He thanked all his fans and admirers in Ghana and the USA.

Ghana Women’s Premier League side Samaria Ladies have changed its name to Thunder Queens FC.

The new identity is as a result of change of hands at the helms of affairs. The Accra based team was established in 2010 by Apostle Sammy Adamaley and Anas Seidu Thunder.

The former co-owner Apostle Sammy Adamaley has mutually parted ways with the club which has necessitated the change in leadership.

As a partner and General Manager of the club, the leadership mantle has therefore been bestowed on Anas Seidu Thunder.

As part of occupying his new role as the sole Owner and manager, he has introduced a new name and logo to match up with the aims and objectives of the club.

In an interview, Anas Seidu revealed the new direction of the club. According to him, “the club has to become fierce and improve on our performance in the league and FA cup.

We have to be a force to reckon with. Our name and performance must send shivers down our opponents’ spine hence the name Thunder Queens.

We will however continue to hunt for and develop talents as we have done in the past by discovering Grace Animah, Philicity Asuako, Gladys Amfobea, Grace Baah, Leticia Adjei and Gifty Achanpong”.

The club gained promotion to the Southern zone of the Premier League in the 2015/2016 season.

Black Bombers head coach Dr. Ofori Asare is optimistic that more Ghanaian boxers would qualify to the Tokyo Olympic Games.

In an exclusive interview with Yours Truly, he assured the nation that experienced boxers like Wahid Omar, Jessie Lartey and enterprising Samed Shakur  are capable of qualifying at the next world stage qualifiers.

“All of them are SWAG Award winners, and we are sure they are capable of making it, if we get fair officiating” he said.

He expressed that all the boxers have taken up the challenge to train harder and go to the Games which is the biggest sports festival in the world.

He thanked the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah for his motivation and support to the Bombers.

He also hailed the President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Mr. George Lamptey for his efforts in managing the team with little support from the government.

According to Coach Asare, al the boxers are self motivated and they only need a training tour outside in Cuba or Eastern Europe  to sharpen their rough edges.

Meanwhile, world rated Duke Micah, recently appointed an  Ambassador for Amateur Boxing has also imparted words of motivation to the boxers and he also believes Ghana has a good chance of winning medals in Tokyo.

Presently, young Samuel Takyi and Suleiman Tetteh have qualified for Japan.

The Ali Royals Girls Soccer Academy will be launched in Cape Coast on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the Ebubonku Community Football Field aka Bonkus Park, near the Cape Coast Technical University.

Ali Yakubu, the founder and chairman said the NGO which was formed in 2015 now has a female team and they are grooming talented kids in sports to become future champions and stars.

He said their foundation is into football and surfing and their aim is to contribute to kids who love to combine education and sports in the Cape Coast North Municipality .

“We organize sporting events and our activities is mainly focused on children” he expressed.

He appealed to institutions who love to see the kids of Ghana to grow to become super stars to contribute to their Academy, noting that the future of Ghana Sports is feminine.

Ali Yakubu who is also technical head of Soccer Intellectuals  thanked parents who believe in his vision and allowing their children to combine education and sports.

The newly formed Ali Royals Girls will play Zenith Pathways Girls to climax the occasion.

Among personalities invited to grace the launch are Sarlikey Alhassan Amissano Muslims, Mr, Thomas Zito Ewudzie Cape Coast District  FA Chairman, Mr, Robert Duncan Central Region FA Chairman and others.

Ghana’s Jessie Manyo Plange has moved up to number 2 in the latest World Boxing Association (WBA) ratings.

He has won all his 20 fights with a draw which he feels he won against Michael Dasmarinas at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.

Plange, a former skipper of the national boxing team, the Black Bombers is one of the most admired boxers and many Ghanaians believe he can become a world champion.

His local manager, Samed told Yours Truly they are working hard to get him a shot at the world title held by the experienced champion Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux Ortiz,

He said since the two excelled in the amateur ranks, they are going to put up a memorable match.

Jesse Manyo Plange won silver at the 2007 All-Africa Games and participated at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games and the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Boakye, is part of a tall list of elite players to make over a hundred appearances for the newly promoted Swedish club, Halmstads BK.

The 27-year-old who joined Halmstad in January 2018 has been instrumental for the club, playing a pivotal role in the team as they secured promotion to the Allsvenskan.

Boakye has played 108 times for HBK since moving to the club from Varberg Bois.

The ex-Right to Dream Academy player has made a total of 166 appearances in the Swedish leagues.

He is joined by teammate Jonathan Svedberg as the players from the current squad to have played over a century of matches for the club.

Another player from the current team, Andreas Johansson has played the most matches with his 354 matches and is placed 25th in the club's all-time appearance list.

Dusan Djuric has reached 239 matches and in the last match against Trelleborgs FF and Alexander, Berntsson became the 77th player to play 200 matches in the blue jersey.

She appealed to companies to back her initiative and the Women’s League. Some Special guests invited for the event include the GOC President, SWAG President, Chairperson of the Women’s Premier League, Chairperson of the GOC Women In Sports Commission, the GFA President, Executive Director of WISA, Director of Girls In Love With Sports, Mrs. Mckorley, Director General of the NSA. WISA Launches New Logo

The Women in Sports Association (WISA) has today launched a new logo.

Madam Gloria Commodore, Executive Director of WISA said the logo is bright and colourful and wished all sports women a bright and colourful season.

She appealed to the general public to support and donate to the WISA CHARITIES FUND.

She hoped that the combined 2020/2021 WISA Awards will come up during the year.WISA has for the past six years been honouring distinguished sports women in Ghana.

She thanked the media for supporting WISA Activities.
