The return of professional boxing in Ghana is drawing closer as the Interim Boxing Management Committee (IMC) overseeing the sport’s normalization process reports significant progress.

The IMC’s Medical Sub-Committee has finalized and submitted a comprehensive draft document detailing new medical and safety protocols for professional bouts in Ghana.

The reforms aim to protect athlete welfare and ensure compliance with global boxing regulations, a crucial step toward lifting Ghana’s suspension.

International boxing bodies that welcomed and supported Ghana’s suspension would be pleased with the latest developments. The IMC, which is chaired by veteran administrator and former GBA President Samir Captan, has kept global stakeholders updated on the country’s steady progress, signaling renewed confidence in Ghana’s return to the international boxing fold.

The recently held Ghana versus France International Boxing Contest at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, 19th October, served as a successful test case for the new medical protocols.

The IMC is now reviewing the post-event report to fine-tune operational procedures before professional boxing activities resume fully, possibly by the end of October 2025.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR) are actively guiding the IMC to ensure a smooth completion of the RESET normalization process.

The guidance and partnership underscores the government of Ghana's commitment to restoring the country's rich boxing heritage on a foundation of safety, professionalism, and integrity.

The latest developments have reignited optimism within Ghana’s boxing fraternity, with stakeholders hopeful that the sport’s official comeback is now only a matter of time..

Some boxing fans are beginning to fall in love with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) instituted by the National Sports Authority (NSA) and Ministry of Sports and Recreation to reset the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

In an exclusive interview with a boxing fan, Mitchy  on The Big Fight Night, she welcomed the IMC and commended the NSA and Ministry to put things in order.

She expressed her sorrow on the death of super middleweight boxer Ernest Akushey aka Bahubali because he entertained fans, but observed that not everyone can box.

She expressed that some people can look fit and strong but they are not cut for boxing.

She also supported the idea of improving medical investigation of athletes  and doping.

According to Mitchy, boxers go through a lot of things before climbing the ring, some or negative and unproductive due to ignorance and hoped that the IMC will organise workshops and conferences to address the issues and support the coaches and boxers.

She welcomed the recommendation of making Ghana a tourist destination through sports like boxing and suggested the idea of building statues for the world champions at visible places, to encourage young boxers.

She prayed that the IMC will achieve their purpose and objectives.

"We love boxing and are sad for the suspension or break for things to be done better, we hope that the IMC will succeed within duration and mandate given them" she expressed.

She appealed to the stakeholders to support the IMC because they have started work, and it is better to unite, focus and work together.

Some other boxing enthusiasts are backing the IMC, overshadowing the stakeholders and hoping they will come up with a blueprint to safeguard boxers, improve capability of trainers, screen boxers and financially support the boxing clubs.

MTN Ghana has congratulated the senior national football team, the Black Stars, for their qualification to the FIFA World Cup, describing the achievement as a true reflection of Ghana’s indomitable spirit, hard work, and unity of purpose.

According to MTN, the determination and resilience exhibited by the team throughout the qualifiers embody the company’s own “can-do” spirit — a belief that with focus and teamwork, success is always within reach.

The telecommunications leader, which took up the mantle as the main sponsor of the Black Stars even before the qualification campaign, has been instrumental in supporting the team’s journey to the global stage. Through financial support, logistical backing, and motivational initiatives, MTN has played a vital role in creating an environment that has enabled the team to perform with confidence and pride.

Beyond the Black Stars, MTN’s sponsorship extends across all the national football teams — both male and female — reinforcing its deep-seated commitment to the holistic growth and development of Ghana football. This sustained support has helped improve team welfare, strengthen structures, and promote competitiveness at all levels.

One of the most enduring symbols of MTN’s dedication to the local game is the MTN FA Cup, Ghana’s most prestigious knockout football competition. For more than a decade, the tournament has not only reignited enthusiasm for domestic football but has also served as a platform for nurturing young talent, discovering new stars, and uniting football fans across the country. Its continued success stands as a testament to MTN’s unwavering faith in Ghanaian football.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has on numerous occasions lauded MTN’s long-term investment and partnership, describing it as a cornerstone of football’s revival and sustainability in the country. Analysts also credit MTN’s support for injecting professionalism, stability, and renewed energy into both club and national football.

As the Black Stars prepare for the world stage, MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its continuous commitment to supporting Ghana football at every level. The company emphasized that its vision goes beyond sponsorship — it seeks to help position Ghana football on the highest pedestal internationally, inspiring the next generation of players and fans.

Indeed, from the MTN FA Cup to the Black Stars’ World Cup journey, MTN’s golden touch continues to connect passion with purpose — proving once again that “together, we can achieve greatness.”
